Why I'm Taking Down My Online Curriculum
Retiring 'Personal Purity Isn't Enough' from Teachable's platform
Thanks for your patience with my lack of updates. I am working on a couple pieces that I hope to publish in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s an important announcement.
It has been nearly six years since I launched my first online class, Personal Purity Isn’t Enough. Marketed primarily to homeschool families, the course received generally positive reviews. Here are a few examples:
“If you think you know all there is to understand or teach your children about purity and discernment, think again. This purity curriculum was extremely informative in ways I never expected.” (Courtney Messick)
“[This] course goes far beyond knowing when to skip a scene or how to control lust. It’s not a replacement for or an updated version of the True Love Waits and Input, Output conversations I heard in my youth group days. It’s a completely different outlook on consuming entertainment as a Christian.” (Emily Copeland)
“Right in the introduction, creator Cap Stewart tells us we’re in for a paradigm shift. And he’s not kidding. As I proceeded through the course, I found myself thinking more than once, ‘I’ve never thought of that before!’” (Susan Landry)
“This course on Christians and sexualized entertainment is organized, very easy to move through and well laid out. I think you’ll be hard pressed to find anything close to what Cap has done so well.” (Tracy Zdelar)
Alas, the class didn’t take off as I had hoped. Even so, the hosting arrangement I had with Teachable allowed me to continue offering the material to existing enrollees without virtually any ongoing fees.
Until now, that is. The platform’s terms and agreements have changed so that it is no longer financially feasible for me to continue utilizing Teachable’s services. As such, I have retired the course, effective September 1, 2025.
To be clear, I still think Teachable is a great platform, and I wouldn’t dissuade anyone from using it if they felt it was a good fit. It’s just no longer a good fit for me.
Of course, as I mentioned earlier, Personal Purity Isn’t Enough was my first online course. I published a second (shorter and simpler) course as well, initially entitled Overcoming the Lusts You (Hate to) Love. While this class has also been taken off of Teachable, it is available in a slightly different format on YouTube. The course title has been changed to The Expulsive Power of a New Affection.1
To all of you who have taken my courses and/or read my work here and abroad: thank you for your continued readership and support!
Yes, it is based on the lecture title of the same name by Thomas Chalmers (1780 - 1847).
